The Bruins have given the agent for goalie Tim Thomas permission to discuss possible trades with other teams.
"I do have permission to talk to teams," agent Bill Zito told ESPN.com. "But I'm not pounding the pavement looking for a team."
Thomas lost his job to Tuukka Rask late in the season and has three years and $15 million left on his contract.
Trade Rumor - Hockey Wiretap
Bruins Says They Aren't Dealing No. 2 Pick
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli insists that he isn't trading the second pick in this week's NHL Draft.
Chiarelli said he was keeping the pick and will select either Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall, depending which player Edmonton takes at No. 1.
"I've had a couple of interesting e-mails, but I'm not trading that pick," said Chiarelli. "I'm taking that pick and selecting one of those forwards."
Bruins Aren't Close To Trading For No. 1
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli won't reveal his preference among the top two prospects in this year's NHL Draft.
Boston has the second overall pick, but there have been rumors that Chiarelli would try to package the pick and trade it to Edmonton for the first overall selection.
Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin are the top two prospects.
"I would say, right now as of today, we have one guy over the other," Chiarelli said Monday. "It's very, very close."
Chiarelli and Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini spoke over the weekend, Chiarelli said, the discussion based in general terms and neither man giving anything away.
"After speaking with Steve, I think he's probably as close, or he has these two guys as close as we do," Chiarelli said. "Neither of us is committed to moving forward on that type of discussion. I would think that we're going to talk again at some point, but right now if the draft was tonight, I'd say there would be no deal."
Flyers Could Let Coburn Go
The Flyers may allow restricted free agent defenseman Braydon Coburn to sign with another team.
Philadelphia traded for the rights to coveted free agent Dan Hamhuis and they have 10 days to sign him to an extension.
If they do so, the Flyers will likely be pressed for cash to re-sign Coburn.
Coburn is expected to get a raise and the two sides appear headed for arbitration. His salary could rise from $1.3 million to close to $3 million if you compare his play with contracts that have been recently awarded.
The addition of Hamhuis makes losing Coburn, likely via trade, easier to handle.
Panthers Trying To Move Up From No. 3
Florida GM Dale Tallon said he has spoken with Oilers GM Steve Tambellini and Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli about moving up from No. 3 to no avail, but that he will keep trying.
He added that he also has received phone calls from teams below the Panthers looking to move up to their spot.
If the Panthers remain at No. 3, they have not yet decided on their selection.
Capitals Could Look To Deal Semin
The Capitals endured another disappointing playoff run after a strong regular season.
The Record writes that Washington might break up their core, and the likely trade suspect is Alexander Semin, who had 40 goals and 44 assists this season.
Devils Could Make Run At Kaberle
Andy Stickland of HockeyBuzz.com writes that the Devils are likely one of the teams that have contacted the Maple Leafs about defenseman Tomas Kaberle.
Toronto has been fielding calls for Kaberle and they are expected to trade him.
"Expect New Jersey to make a run at D-man Tomas Kaberle who will likely be dealt from Toronto. The Devils are in need of a D-man who can distribute on the PP," Stickland writes.
Leafs Getting Offers For Kaberle
The Maple Leafs have put Tomas Kaberle on the block and they are getting calls about the defenseman.
Toronto is believed to be looking for a big winger who can score and secondary toughness.
There are rumors that the Leafs have been discussing a deal with the Blue Jackets for the fourth pick, but that is false.
Bruins Won't Trade No. 2 Pick
There have been reports that the Bruins are open to trading the second overall pick, but indications are that they will not.
According to FanHouse, the consensus top picks (Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall) are only visiting Edmonton and Boston.
Chris Botta of FanHouse writes, "The price would be prohibitive."
Bruins, Oilers Discuss Swapping Picks
The Bruins and Oilers are discussing a trade involving the first two picks in this year's NHL Draft.
Edmonton has the first overall selection, while Boston acquired the second pick in a trade with Toronto earlier this season.
The consensus top prizes are Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin, but there is no consensus on who should go No. 1.
"We came out with one guy ahead, but it flip-flopped," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said Wednesday. "If it was a sizeable enough gap, we would look at a deal. Whatever premium we put on it, their gap might be bigger."
